A ‘fantastic for the money’ white wine and a red to enjoy with tapas

T his week, we feature a pair of inexpensive Spanish wines from Dunnes Stores . Neither gives much away on the label other than the name of the wine, which translates as “much more”, and the name of the producer. Félix Solis is one of the largest family-owned wine producers in the world, with six wineries in Spain .

These two wines are made from a blend of different grape varieties, some local, others international. At €9, both offer great value for money, the white in particular. The red is not quite as good, but is definitely still worth a punt.

Made from a blend of verdejo, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay, this is a very attractive wine with succulent fresh fruits and a touch of spice, balanced nicely by refreshing acidity. This would make a great aperitif, or you could serve it with lighter pasta dishes, fish and soft cheeses. Fantastic value for money.

A blend of tempranillo, garnacha and syrah, this is light in alcohol, medium-bodied with ripe dark cherry fruits overlaid with chocolate and vanilla and has a smooth finish. Enjoy with tapas, pork chops or roast Mediterranean vegetables.
