Dig into a treat: Conwy Falls Cafe in Betws-Y-Coed has great food and lovely views to offer

The A5 in Wales is a popular biking road, and there’s a stop just outside Betws-y-Coed that’ll provide a perfect pause to any riding trip. Conwy Falls café sits right on the road, and you won’t miss it as the building was designed by Sir Bertram Clough Williams-Ellis of Portmeirion fame. With its waterfall walk, a hub for mine exploration trips on the ground floor and sizeable car park, it’s a definite must-stop spot.

“It’s a family-run business,” says café manager Jess Forshaw.

“The café is linked with Go Below, so we get people coming in for underground adventure trips as well as walkers and bikers.

“It’s a beautiful setting; we get some lovely views across Snowdonia. We use a lot of Welsh produce and keep everything local. The majority of our food and drink is sourced from North Wales.”

With all-day breakfasts and brunches, as well as light-bite lunches along with a seasonal specials board, there’s something for everyone. Even if you just ride over for some cake, you’ll be in for a scrumptious time.

Behind the café, there is a looped walk to Conwy Falls, and as it’s an SSSI area, you know you’re in for a beautiful jaunt. Plus, the café is part of the Bike and Brew passport scheme, so you can collect a stamp.

B4406 to Cwm Road, take B4407 then right onto B4391. Left to A470 and follow to Trawsfynydd. A4212 to Bala, turn right onto the A494 then either take the A493 and ride over Barmouth Bridge, or the A496 all the way up to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Then join the A470 once again, right onto the A5 and back to the café.

Saffron's career includes various marketing roles in the automotive industry, but her passion for motorcycles led her to join MCN in April 2021. Since she joined, she has dabbled in off-road riding and track time, but touring remains her favourite hobby. Saffron, often seen traveling for features, rides a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail when not working for MCN.
