Benfica has announced that Real Madrid expressed its desire to sign José Mourinho, stating that the coach has already agreed to coach the Spanish club.
The Portuguese club confirmed late on Tuesday that Marco Silva would replace Mourinho as the team's coach.
Benfica stated that Real Madrid paid €15 million, the buyout clause in the Portuguese coach's contract.
Benfica's official account concluded: "The coach has agreed to this, thank you José Mourinho."
Florentino Pérez, the president of Real Madrid, announced the return of José Mourinho to coach the team again, after winning the royal club's elections.
Pérez won the presidential elections of Real Madrid to remain in the presidency until 2030.
José Mourinho signed the coaching contracts with Real Madrid until June 2029.
The contract was activated immediately after Pérez won the elections.
It is worth mentioning that Mourinho led Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning the La Liga title in 2011-2012, the Copa del Rey in 2010-2011, and the Supercopa de España in 2012.
