Sir, – Considering the modern trend of “terminal tipping” where, when paying for something, the option to add 10-15 per cent is frequently offered to customers, a further point I think is worth mentioning. It never happens if one pays in cash, as archaic as that feels.
Quite simply, if you hand over a banknote it feels unimaginable that a request for a supplementary amount would be made. I wonder why? I think it points to something in human psychology, the awkwardness of talking about money.
